It rained earlier this morning, but it cleared in time for us to leave Little America. However, it is a LOT colder - 40s! We head out across the bleakness of Wyoming. In a 20 mile stretch between Granger and Opal on Rt 30 there are hundreds of gas wells dotting the landscape. The company running things seems to be Williams. (I'll look them up to see if I can get an explanation of how gas wells work!) Later on, we would come upon a large open pit coal mine.
We stopped at Fossil Butte National Monument. We'd been years ago but it seems to have improved their exhibits. Its very interesting! This whole area was a lake millennia ago and there are thousands of different creatures explained by their fossils.
We enjoyed an in-the-car picnic lunch overlooking Bear Lake - its was still in the 40s and very windy! Then, it started to rain. It rained buckets all the way to almost Pocatello; the temperature got down to 38 at one point. There was snow on the mountaintops. (Janet reported that it was a beautiful day at home!!)
Quick visit to JC Penny's at the mall then dinner at Olive Garden. Heading home tomorrow.
