After a nice complimentary breakfast at the hotel café by the hot springs pool, we left Glenwood Springs after 10:00 and headed west on the interstate until we got to Rt 13 going north. Our goal is to get to the Dinosaur National Monument, just east of Vernal, Utah, where we will stay for the night.
We didn’t see much of Glenwood Springs but it seems like it
probably another one of “those” reinvented towns, although the draw of the Hot Springs has
been there since 1888. The Hot Springs is an amazing facility!
We had a pretty place for our picnic lunch next to Kenney Reservoir.
We arrived at the Dinosaur Visitor Center, wondering why it didn’t look familiar,
since we know we’d been here before! Turns out the “Bone Quarry” was up the
hill a bit; that’s what we recognized!
Vernal is just up the road. We remarked that their
“commercial” road goes on and on and on! Our Comfort Inn was way at the end.
Nice dinner at Wingers. It’s a very industrial area; the major industry seems
to be oil and gas services.
An observation about Colorado towns we visited: We really
enjoyed Durango, Ouray, Salida, Aspen and Glenwood Springs….but we wondered why
Silverton was so different. Silverton was totally dependent on tourists on the
train ride. Nothing looked very good; the streets were dirt. Maybe its the high elevation of 9300’?
